Take the Eyes Open Challenge

Across Europe, many victims of violence are not recognised and do not access the support they are entitled to.

The Eyes Open campaign raises awareness of victims’ rights and encourages everyone to pay attention, recognise signs of violence, and help people access support and protection.

Eyes Open events are held across Europe in festivals, cultural venues and public spaces.

Attend an Eyes Open event near you and play an active role in the campaign by joining the Eyes Open Challenge.

The Challenge

Take part in a simple but powerful experience. Sit across from someone. Hold their gaze. See how long you can go without blinking.

The Eyes Open Challenge highlights the importance of attention and presence.

By taking part, you make a personal commitment to keep your eyes open for victims of violence.

At the event, you can also access information about victims’ rights and available support, and learn how to recognise when someone may need help and what you can do.

Eyes Open in the city

As you move through the city, you have come across short, seemingly ordinary sentences printed on stickers, mini-posters, postcards or coasters in cafés, cultural venues, on noticeboards and other shared spaces.

These sentences are also part of the Keep your Eyes Open campaign.

They reflect what victims of violence might say, often without being recognised as such.

Each one invites you to read between the lines and notice when something may be wrong and someone may need your support.

A QR code leads to a dedicated page with more information about the many forms of violence, victims’ rights and how to offer support.
